The Padstow statistical area held 1,816 businesses at June 2025, according to the ABS, up about 11% on June 2021. Construction is the biggest group at 431, but professional services (216), transport (211) and wholesale trade (85) all rank in the top eight, a mix with plenty of business-to-business work. Turnover is spread wide: 441 businesses take under $50,000, 606 take $200,000 to $2 million and 152 sit above that band. Just under 6 in 10 have no employees. Padstow's industrial precinct and the station shops

The council's Employment Lands Strategy (June 2020) maps the Padstow industrial precinct at about 192 hectares, split in two by the M5 Motorway. South of the motorway it's mostly warehousing, wholesale, automotive and manufacturing. To the north, general industrial land runs up towards Hoskins Avenue, with recycling, manufacturing, wholesale and construction businesses on large lots. On its western edge, at the Canterbury Road and Chapel Road junction, a commercial complex holds furniture, electrical and automotive retailers. The strategy's direction is to keep the precinct for industry and urban services rather than housing.

Padstow's shops sit either side of the station on the T8 Airport and South Line, along Howard Road and Padstow Parade to the south and Cahors Road to the north, where the library is. TAFE NSW Padstow, on Raine Road, trains students in aviation, floristry and horticulture, and from 2026 it also teaches animal studies and early childhood education, backed by a $30 million NSW Government investment.
