Wollongong gained 514 businesses across its East and West statistical areas between 2021 and 2025, and the council now wants 20,500 new jobs by 2035. We're based in Macarthur, which Picton Road connects to the Illawarra, and we build websites for the practices, consultancies and property firms behind those numbers.

Counting the Wollongong East and Wollongong West statistical areas together, the ABS found 4,195 businesses in June 2025, 14% more than in 2021. The top three groups sit close together: health care and social assistance (633), rental, hiring and real estate (614) and professional, scientific and technical services (595). Almost 59% have no employees. In practice that means many practitioners, consultants and property people working alone or in small teams, competing for the same city centre customers. Their websites have to explain a specialty quickly and make booking easy, because a similar practice is rarely far away.

Where business happens

Crown Street, Keiraville and the Innovation Campus

Wollongong's CBD is centred on the Crown Street Mall and Wollongong Central. The pedestrian mall runs from Keira Street to Kembla Street, had a major facelift finished in October 2014, and turns its lower end into a market every Friday. Crown Street also runs past Wollongong Hospital, which first opened on Garden Hill in 1907. Hospitals were the largest industry of employment for Wollongong residents in the 2021 Census, at 6.4%, ahead of cafés and restaurants at 4.5%.

The University of Wollongong's main campus is on Northfields Avenue in Keiraville. Its Innovation Campus on Squires Way, North Wollongong, puts research facilities and companies side by side, and runs the iAccelerate business incubator. Council holds free one-hour business advice sessions with Service NSW Business Bureau at its administration building on Burelli Street, and Business Illawarra held its 2026 business awards at the university in September.

A team reviewing website designs together

Builds for a Wollongong practice, consultancy or agency

Each of these matches one of the city's three largest business groups.

Clinic sites that take bookings

Health care is Wollongong's biggest business group, with 633 businesses. For a physio, psychology or dental practice we build practitioner pages, clear fee information and booking that works on a phone, with pages light enough to load quickly for patients checking from a waiting room.

Credibility for consultants

Most of the 595 professional firms here sell expertise rather than products. We lead with case studies, credentials and a clear first step, the same trust-first thinking behind our rebuild for Hussaini Law Group, where trust-first design and fast mobile pages do the persuading.

Property sites that keep their rankings

Real estate and rental businesses often carry years of listings and suburb pages that Google already knows. When one of the 614 here needs a rebuild, a careful website redesign keeps the pages that earn traffic, redirects the rest properly and fixes speed on mobile.

Why a Macarthur studio suits an Illawarra business

Picton Road runs from Wollongong to Picton through the Macarthur region, joining the Princes Motorway to the Hume. The connection goes beyond the road. When Wollongong City Council's Economic Development Strategy 2025 to 2035 went on exhibition, Region Illawarra reported that closer ties to south-west Sydney were a key part of the plan. Council adopted it in December 2025.

That strategy's 20,500-job target comes with a stated aim: Lord Mayor Tania Brown wants more residents to build careers in Wollongong rather than commute out, in fields like clean energy, advanced manufacturing, technology and professional services. If your firm is hiring, a careers page with real roles and photos of your team works harder than a job-board listing on its own.

Good to know

Wollongong web design questions, answered

Does it matter that you aren't based in Wollongong?
For most projects, no. We're in the Campbelltown and Ingleburn area, about 48 km away, so the work runs on video calls and a private preview link you can open on a phone. Sayed reads every enquiry and replies within one business day. What matters more is understanding your customers, whether they're students around Keiraville or patients near Wollongong Hospital, and that's where we start.
We're a startup near the UOW Innovation Campus. Which package fits?
Early-stage companies usually suit Launch, from $1,500 inc. GST for about three pages built in roughly a week, covering what you do, who's behind it and how to get in touch. Once you have customers and case studies, Grow, from $3,500, gives room for six to eight pages. E-commerce starts at $5,500. If you're still settling on a name and look, we also offer brand identity work.
Should a Wollongong business have pages in Macedonian or Arabic?
Macedonian and Arabic were each spoken at home by 2.3% of Wollongong residents in the 2021 Census, behind Mandarin at 3.4%, while 67.2% spoke only English. For a pharmacy, migration practice or community service, one page in that language explaining what you do and how to book, worded by you or a translator you trust, can matter more than another blog post. Most other businesses do well with clear, plain English.
Does the University of Wollongong's student population matter for my website?
If students are part of your market, yes. The university had more than 33,000 students in 2023, over 12,300 of them international, with its main campus on Northfields Avenue in Keiraville. For a café, gym, tutor or repair shop serving them, put prices up front, keep pages fast on mobile data and spell out any student discount. Plain wording also helps readers who use English as a second language.
