Picton is Wollondilly's administrative centre, and its Argyle Street strip of cafes and shops is promoted to visitors from Sydney, yet nearly a third of businesses in the Picton, Tahmoor and Buxton area are in construction. We build websites for both groups: trades quoting on jobs across the Shire, and Argyle Street businesses that need visitors to find them.

The ABS counted 1,738 businesses at June 2025 across the single statistical area spanning Picton, Tahmoor and Buxton, up 19.9% from 1,450 in 2021. Construction dominates with 548 businesses. That is 31.5% of the total, a bigger slice than in Camden (25.8%) or Leumeah (25.2%). Professional services (156) and rental, hiring and real estate (144) follow a long way back. About 52% are sole operators, and 633 businesses employ one to four people. That suggests a lot of small crews, where a steady flow of quote requests keeps a team working.

Where business happens

Argyle Street and the wider Shire

Argyle Street is Picton's main street, an outdoor strip of gift shops, cafes, restaurants and grocers promoted by Visit Wollondilly, with the George IV Inn at number 180. The inn was reputedly built in 1839 and is regarded as one of Australia's oldest hotel buildings, and the sandstone Picton Railway Viaduct is still in use on the Main Southern line. In 2023 Picton & Surrounds received a Judges' Commendation in the Top Tourism Town Awards.

Picton is also where Wollondilly Shire Council is based, while Tahmoor, inside the same ABS area, is the Shire's largest town. The Shire covers 2,557 square kilometres, around 90% of it national park, bushland, water catchment or rural land, so a trade based in Picton or Tahmoor may cover a wide area.

Weather is part of doing business here. Flooding on 5 June 2016 damaged 144 Picton businesses, and a flash flood in April 2024 hit stores on the main street again. When trading is disrupted at short notice, an up-to-date website and Google Business Profile are the quickest way to let customers know.

Websites that work for Wollondilly's trades and visitors

We start from who's searching: a Tahmoor homeowner looking for a builder, or a Sydney family planning a day out in Picton.

Project galleries for builders

With construction making up nearly a third of local businesses, homeowners are not short of builders to call. A gallery of finished jobs, your licence number and a short quote form give them a reason to pick you, and give you the details needed to price the work.

Service areas that match the Shire

We write location content for the towns you actually work in, from Picton and Tahmoor to Buxton and beyond, so you show up where you'll travel. If you work from home, we set up your Google Business Profile as a service-area business instead of showing your address.

Visitor-ready pages for Argyle Street

Day-trippers often check opening hours, menus and directions on a phone before setting out. We make those details quick to load and easy for you to update, and help you tell the heritage story behind your building or shop.

Selling after the visit

If your gift shop or local producer sells products, an online store lets visitors buy again from home. Our custom build for Kayinat Perfumery, a luxury perfume brand, shows how we approach online stores without templates.

Close enough to visit

Picton is within about 30 km of our base in the Campbelltown and Ingleburn area, so we can come out to see your shop or a job site when it helps. Day to day, the project runs on video calls and a private preview link, handy for trades who would rather check progress after hours than lose a morning to meetings. If your current site is dated rather than missing, a website redesign can keep what works and replace what doesn't.

Local support worth knowing

Wollondilly Shire Council runs its own business support service from Picton.

  • Business Wollondilly: Business Concierge: Council's Tourism and Business Support Team helps people starting, growing or investing in a business or agri-tourism venture, and connects them with Service NSW and other advisers.
  • Wollondilly Shire Council: Business: Council's business hub, linking to Business Wollondilly, the Agrihub for farmers and producers, health and regulatory services, and tenders.

Good to know

Picton web design questions, answered

Can a Picton or Tahmoor builder get a website that brings in quote requests?
Yes, and it is the work we expect most of in this part of Wollondilly. The ABS counted 548 construction businesses in the area spanning Picton, Tahmoor and Buxton at June 2025, almost a third of the local total. For builders we focus on project galleries, licence details, service areas across Wollondilly and a quote form built around the details you need, so not every enquiry needs a site visit before you can price it.
How can a Picton business keep customers informed during floods or closures?
Keep your website homepage and Google Business Profile hours current, because that's where many customers check before they drive in. Picton's main street flooded in June 2016 and again in April 2024, and a notice you can post in minutes saves customers a wasted trip and saves you a stream of phone calls. We hand over every site so you can post updates like this yourself, without waiting for a developer.
Is Picton too far out for you to work with?
No. We're based in Macarthur, close enough to Picton that we can drive out for a meeting when it's useful. The rest is handled by video call and a private preview link, and every enquiry gets a reply from Sayed within one business day, with a fixed quote and straight advice.
What would a website for a Picton tourism business cost?
A cafe or guesthouse on or near Argyle Street usually fits our Launch package, from $1,500 for about three pages, or Grow, from $3,500 for six to eight pages if you want separate pages for menus or rooms. If you sell products online, e-commerce starts at $5,500 and takes two to three weeks. All prices include GST and are fixed before work starts.
